Samsung SCH-R330 Stride for U.S. Cellular and the Pantech Breeze II for ATandT

If you're in the market for a basic flip phone, and don't mind tying yourself down to a particular mobile phone service, you might want to consider the Samsung SCH-R330 Stride for U.S. Cellular or the Pantech Breeze II for AT&T. Both cell phones would work well for a casual user, and neither one will hit you in the wallet.

Samsung SCH-R330 Stride for U.S. Cellular

The Samsung SCH-R330 Stride is a flip phone for U.S. Cellular customers that want simplicity. It does not come with a lot of extra features, but it does offer good build quality and the basics a casual user would need. The Stride is available for $29.95 with a service agreement from U.S. Cellular.

The Stride is about as basic as you can get with a cell phone in terms of features. With that said, the most basic features of the Stride include a speakerphone, an alarm clock, a standard calculator, a tip calculator, and a stop watch. Organizational tools include a calendar, a to-do list, and a memo book. A voice recorder is included in case you ever need to record an important thought or reminder. For those who travel overseas or work with international clients, there is a world clock, a currency converter, and a unit converter.

The Stride's phone book can hold up to 500 contacts. You can enter several phone numbers, email addresses, notes, and more for each. You can also sort them into groups for easier access, as well as give each its own photo and ringtone. If you don't like the 17 polyphonic ringtones that come standard with the phone, you can download more from U.S. Cellular. You can also download additional wallpapers and themes from the carrier to further customize the phone.

Other features of the Stride include Bluetooth with support for profiles such as hands-free kits or stereo headsets. The Stride also supports voice commands for easier usage. As far as messaging goes, you are limited to just the standard text and multimedia messaging. You won't find much in the way of instant messaging or email here. If you need to access the Internet, you can do so via a WAP browser that will give you condensed, stripped-down versions of websites to peruse.
