    OtterBox for iPod Video

Every so often we review some sort of case here on Dev Hardware. It might be a laptop case, or a PSP case, you name it. This week, we are taking a look at another case, this time from OtterBox. What makes this OtterBox case stand out from the others is that it is waterproof, sand proof, drop proof, dirt proof, and dust proof.

When I first got the OtterBox for iPod video, I was like "cool, a waterproof iPod case." When I took a close look at it inside the package, it actually reminded me of those old kits you could buy -- you know, the big plastic enclosures you could put around your camera so you could take pictures underwater. Because at first glance, this thing is kind of bulky.

After a quick read of the specs (which I will get to in a moment), it says that this case is guaranteed to keep your iPod protected in water up to three feet deep.  Three feet? Okay, so scuba diving is out. I began to wonder why I would want something like this for my iPod.  I mean, it's bigger than your average iPod case; why go waterproof if you can't even swim to the bottom of the pool with it?

Then it hit me. I do a lot of stuff around water. I can tell you I've lost more than one radio from going canoeing. No, you don't think your canoe is going to tip, but when you go with a group of rowdies, there's no telling for sure. Or how about a lazy day of fishing? And how about the beach? Not only would this case hold out in the salty mist, but it would protect the iPod from the sand as well. A relaxing fishing trip or even a rainy jog are the perfect opportunities for this case to protect your precious iPod.

So before I violate the packaging, let's take a look at the features this case has to offer:

    Features:

    • Waterproof, dust proof, dirt proof, sand proof, and drop-proof.
    • Water proof up to three feet (1m). Will NOT protect for scuba diving.
    • ClickWheel protected by a thin membrane which remains fully functional through the case.
    • Included belt clip provides cable management for your headphones.
    • External headphone jack usable with any style headphones with a standard mini stereo plug (1/8").
