    Nokia N800 - Features/Performance

There are a wide range of features integrated into the N800, most of which I have already mentioned. Some of the key features of the N800 include the RSS reader, IM capabilities, media player, FM radio, and VoIP. The user can choose which RSS feed to display on the home page, and can also store a list of feeds. The N800 comes preloaded with Google Talk and Jabber for instant messaging support. The media player works well at both playing video and music. It is a relatively basic player, but it does the trick. Videos look amazing on this device, as long as they are not streaming videos. The FM radio works well on this device, but you must have headphones connected, because they double as the antenna. This device is not a cell phone, but it can still make VoIP calls. You can even make video calls by using the built-in camera.

As far as performance goes, this tablet PC is one of the fastest in its price range right now. This device does a sufficient job of performing web-based applications including browsing, flash graphics, and multi-tasking. Obviously, it is not as fast as a laptop, but it is fast for a tablet PC. The video player performance is mixed. Playing videos from an SD card is great, while viewing videos from a website, like YouTube, is awful. Do not buy this device if you plan to use it to view lots of video.

Battery life is rated for three hours of continuous web surfing and 10 days of standby before needing a charge. Independent tests have shown that these figures are quite conservative. The N800 includes a travel charger in the box. Other accessories in the box include:

    • A soft case
    • USB cable
    • Wired headset
    • 128 MB mini SD card
    • Reference material/warranty card

    Final Thoughts

I love the idea of being able to carry around such a compact device that allows me to be connected to the web no matter where I am. Nokia did an outstanding job of addressing the problems in the 770 model. Right now there is not a huge market for Internet tablets, but for those people in the market for one, the N800 may be what you've been looking for. In my opinion, there is no better tablet PC on the market right now for $240.
