Nokia 7610 Supernova
Those familiar with the Nokia line of phones may have recognized the name of the new Nokia 7610 Supernova. The previously-released Nokia 7610, which came out years ago, had a unique design, complete with a slanted and curved keypad and a paint-splattered graphic on the back cover. The newly-released 7610 Supernova bears no relation to that funky phone, however, and only resembles it with its moniker.
It seems a bit odd that Nokia would choose to use the same exact number to name this phone, seeing as how it does not appear to be a descendant or update of the previous one. The Supernova is a slider phone with a very simple yet attractive design. It has a customizable exterior that many users in the younger demographic will enjoy.
It’s a good phone for world travelers and backpackers, as it is a quad band GSM phone capable of global roaming. Besides that, there are plenty of other fun features, such as a media player and camera to keep you busy, and its performance, while not outstanding, is definitely serviceable.
No carrier in the United States currently offers the 7610 Supernova, so you will have to purchase it unlocked. If you shop around you can pick one up for around $200.
The standard features on the Nokia 7610 Supernova are a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, a calculator, a timer, a stopwatch, and an alarm clock. To keep organized, there is a notepad, a to-do list, a calendar, and a voice recorder as well.
Frequent travelers will be sure to make good use of the world clock that is available, as well as the unit and currency converter. Something new to me is a clothing size converter that comes on the phone, which is really the first time I have ever run into one, but is great to have nonetheless when you want to pick up some clothing souvenirs while overseas.
