Nokia 330 Auto Navigation Review - Features

The version of the 330 sold in the United States comes equipped with a SiRFIII GSC3 GPS receiver which features a set of maps of North America. The software that the 330 uses is Route 66 Navigate 7, which is very good software. The software allows the user to select an abundance of point-of-interest destinations, as well as specific addresses. The user also has the option of selecting the fastest route, shortest distance route, or a route which avoids all toll roads. These features are all great, and are very helpful in customizing a route to your destination based upon your specific needs. It is also nice that the user can save their most used locations into the unit, which saves time.

The 330 also supports features such as voice-guided directions, and it comes equipped with four different languages. The voice feature is not as advanced as some other GPS devices in the same price range as the 330, but it is not bad. The 330 also has a cool little function which warns you when you are speeding.

Once in the map screen, the user may select from a 2-D view or a 3-D view of the map. The map will display what street you are currently on, and it will also display certain points of interest. The map screen will take some getting used to by the user, but it won't take long for them to find the view that works best for them.

I like the fact that the Nokia 330 is more than just a GPS device. Nokia has made it into a multimedia device by including a built-in music player and video player with picture viewer. The supported formats for these applications are MP3, WMA, WMV, MPEG4, AVI, and JPEG. I would expect Nokia to add features such as these, because that is the same thing they have done in the cell phone market with their smart phones. I think that Nokia will continue to add similar features to future GPS systems, because it will separate them from the big companies like Garmin and Magellan. The additional SD memory card slot on the 330 is great because passengers can flip through digital photos while driving in the car, quickly and easily.

The 330 comes nicely equipped with all of the following accessories:

    • Nokia 330 auto navigation GPS unit
    • SD memory card (with pre-loaded maps)
    • USB cable
    • Car holder
    • Car power adapter
    • Windshield holder
    • Software DVD
    • Reference materials
    • One year warranty

The included windshield mount works great, because it is very stiff and will not shift on bumpy roads.  The windshield mount arm is also very small, so it will not take up a lot of space or look bulky above the dashboard.
