The Motorola ROKR E8 uses Motorola's Crystal Technology, which gives you call clarity. The technology aims to cut down on background noise. Based on a series of algorithms in the digital signal processor, the Crystal Technology separates out the caller's voice from the noise in the background and then strengthens it. The technology can assess the background noise and will decrease or increase the volume based on its assessment.
