The Motorola Backflip is the first Android phone from AT&T. As with most initial ventures, the Backflip has some growing pains, particularly in the speed and performance department. But there is much to like about it, too. Keep reading for a closer look.
The Motorola Backflip does introduce an innovative design that is sure to lure many customers, as well as a complete feature set. The Backflip is available for $99.99 after rebates and a two-year contract from AT&T.
The Motorola Backflip is a Google Android smartphone that runs on the Android 1.5 operating system. Unfortunately, this is not the most updated OS from Android, so some of the features found on the more recent 1.6 version will be absent.
The phone also seems to suffer a bit from some lag while trying to launch certain applications, which can be irritating at times. With that said, don't expect powerhouse performance from the Backflip.
What you do get in terms of Android features are popular Google-based features such as Gmail, Google Talk, and Google Maps. The main search on the phone comes from Yahoo, which is a bit surprising considering it is an Android device.
One other large benefit of the Backflip being an Android phone is that you get access to the Android Market and its huge catalog of games and apps that can be downloaded to the phone.
