    Magellan RoadMate 1700 GPS

Mostly aimed at owners of large vehicles, the Magellan RoadMate 1700 is a GPS with a large 7-inch display. Its feature set is pretty basic, but it does offer all the essentials along with good performance. The RoadMate 1700 can be bought for a retail price of $300. Shop around, though, and you might find it for even less.

For many potential consumers, the size of the RoadMate 1700 is what will most likely possess them to go ahead and purchase the unit. It has a huge 7-inch WVGA touch-screen that even the most visually challenged should be able to see without trouble. This size makes the 1700 ideal for those with larger vehicles, such as RVs, trucks, and other similarly sized methods of transport.

The screen's large size enables it to display four times the detail usually found on most standard GPS devices. For example, at any one time you can see your route, points of interest (POI), street names, destination, estimated time of arrival, and more, giving you an excellent level of detail to keep you more in-tune with your surroundings.

The display is fixed with an anti-glare coating that makes it easy to see even in very bright conditions or sunlight. For use during darker hours, the 1700 has Auto Night View, which will automatically adjust the screen's contrast and color for optimal viewing.

Despite the large 7-inch screen, which can be nearly twice the size of that found on many other GPS devices, the RoadMate 1700 is very thin, even when compared to competing units. It measures only 0.6 inches thick, and is 7.5 inches wide and 4.2 inches tall. It's not tiny, but it is still streamlined enough that you can tote it around without too much of a hassle. Other than its display, the RoadMate 1700 is equipped with only a few more design features, but that is to be expected.
