    Magellan RoadMate 1200 - Packaging

    Packaging

The packaging is simple and to the point. It holds your product and offers a little information about the unit. The product comes with the GPS unit, car USB charger, mounting hardware, and an installation CD.

I think it would be worthwhile to take a closer look at the GPS unit. A look at the size shows us that this is a small unit. It is very thin compared to other units.

On the top right side we have the power button. It is nothing thrilling; just hold it down a few seconds to power the unit on or off.

On the right side we have the SD card slot for the included SD card with the maps on it.

The bottom left side is the power port. It is your standard USB Mini B connection. This means that it can accept any type of cord with this connection on the end of it. While this unit does come with a car charger, no wall outlet or computer charger is included. This helps cut costs, but it leaves out some more cables that will probably be needed later on. Like many gadgeteers, I have a lot of this type of cable lying around my apartment.

I normally don’t bother using the installation CD for most products, but I have never used a GPS before, so I thought it would be best. Well, it didn’t install any kind of software onto my computer. It simply brought up the page to register the unit. I took out the cable I had already and connected the unit to my computer. All it did was charge the device. There is the possibility for updates to the GPS, but since this is a new product, there aren’t any updates as of yet.
