So, as my housemate Dave pointed out, you have the option of being lazy and having enough MP3s to get you through a huge road trip that sounds roughly equivalent to what you could pick up off of the radio, except that the music selection doesn't suck and there's no commercials. Or, you can swap CDs. I'm partial to audio quality, but the man does have a good point. On the solo treks that I do, I'd much rather just spend the time before leaving setting up 10 hours of consecutive tunes than going through 14 discs. Around town though, I'll stick to the shiny discs, or Rock101.3.
So, summation time.
Do I think it's a great product? No, there's too many flaws for that. If you are looking for an easy way to add massive amounts of music to your vehicle, and you are content that you can just let it play without trying to jump across your entire library while commuting, it does have a place. For me though, I'm going to look for something similar that can just output audio from my iPAQ to the FM band, so I can put together playlists, use .wma, and select from them a hell of a lot easier. All I need to go with that is another 1GB Compact Flash card...
