MP3onChannel Review - The second test run
(Page 4 of 6 )

After reloading the new drive with a boatload of tunes from my collection, I went out for another test circuit. This time my excuse to pollute the atmosphere was to recall what driving in snow is like with all season rubber on the rims. First thoughts of a now working MP3onChannel? Spending time naming your files and folders is key. You can't skip folders, and there is no "random" selection function. So unless you want to listen to everything in alphabetical order... use numbers.
I had just ported over my albums with the typical .m3u file to put them in correct order as the artists intended, but the MP3onChannel doesn't recognize any file which doesn't end in .mp3. It took a fair amount of time to skip all the way through to The Tragically Hip's "Road Apples" album, and then it played completely out of order, which caused another fit of course language to escape my lips. Some encoders do leave an option of adding the track number to the name. Use it before the "track" part of the file name. Not being aware of this, I of course didn't bother, and had to do it manually later.
There's also no "fast forward" or "rewind" function. Holding down the track forward/backward key on a CD player enables that function. On the MP3onChannel it just sends volume through the roof or into the basement instead. So don't plan on being able to rewind to hear the guitar solo from Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" over and over again without listening to the entire song.
