    Lenntek`s The Hookup - Summarizing

So there we have it.  Another iPod accessory designed to enrich our lives.  This one is a little amusing, though, because it aims to "simplify" your life by getting you to carry MORE stuff.  One last thing before getting to the final thoughts.  In the media kit for The Hookup, it states that the unit is priced at $129.99.  A "buy now" from Lenntek's own website takes you to amazon.com, where they are selling the unit for $169.99.  That's a pretty hefty difference.

So without further ado, I give you the ups and downs of this product, as I see them.

    Ups:

    • Unbulk yourself: stow the bulky iPod nearby and use the smaller and impact-ignoring remote
    • Good sound quality
    • Wirelessly control the iPod
    • Answer phone calls without switching headsets
    • Decent battery life (approx 4-5 hours)
    • Use your own headphones
    • Built-in microphone for telephone calls

    Downs:

    • Doesn't play well with older cellphones
    • Risky connection between transmitter and iPod
    • Very pricey ($170 at the time of this writing)
    • Audio lost quality around 18 feet

Based on all of the above, I would give the Lenntek Hookup a rating of 7 on a scale of 1-10.  A more solid connection between the iPod and the transmitter would have gone a long way to increasing my opinion of this item.  For almost $200, many users would opt for a 4 GB iPod Nano to solve their size needs.  Not everyone wants or needs to be able to answer their cell phone, although it is a cool feature if you happen to have a Bluetooth-compatible phone.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Lenntek for sending us The Hookup for review.  Should you want any more information about The Hookup, visit Lenntek's website at http://www.lenntek.com/.
