Kyocera Slider SE47 Cell Phone Review - User Menu, Visibility, Performance, and Usability

Navigating the main interface of the phone is very much like any other handset these days and consists of icons which the user can scroll through using the large Navigation key located on the top half of the unit. Listings can be changed according to preference. The Navigation key can also be used to access some of the phone's features instantly, such as Mobile Web, Messaging and "Get It Now" applications. The key also allows for a user customizable shortcut to be assigned to one of its positions.

Things like time/date, wallpaper, menu color, and the screensaver can also be customized. (There are a few amusing screensavers pre-programmed into the unit that might just brighten up your day.)

The Kyocera Slider sports a 65,000 color display which makes for an amazingly crisp color of pictures and backgrounds. In addition, there is sufficient contrast, which makes the phone's screen easy to read when using it in well-lit areas.

Overall the interface is easy to use, is fairly intuitive, and the display is up to par with most of the new color screen cellular handsets on the market.

    Performance and Usability

The model that we tested was operating on a Verizon Wireless network. The handset offered enough sound output to be properly heard.I find it interesting that the SE-47 has a retractable antenna, since that only affects systems in analog, or AMPS mode, which this model does not support.

Overall the performance of this model was well more than satisfactory, with battery lasting for more than 2 full days of heavy use.

    Conclusion

The Slider SE-47 is definitely a great improvement in the new line of cellular handsets made by Kyocera. It is has a very attractive design and is packed with features allowing the users to customize the phone to their needs. For those looking for a stylish new cellular phone for browsing the web and downloading games, but don't want to break the bank, this makes for a good option. It's not a particularly durable phone, so for those who tend to abuse cell phones, and those who can't live with paying for downloading games, will likely want to look at other phones. (A word of advice: it would be a good idea to purchase a protective case along with this phone to help keep your display scratch-free.)

    Kyocera SE-47

    Pros:

    • Innovative attractive design
    • 65,000 color screen
    • full-duplex speaker-phone
    • Personalized menu features to fit the user

    Cons:

    • Display not protected from scratches and damage
    • Small keys, hard to press
    • Lack of pre-downloaded games

We hope you've found our review of the Kyocera Slider SE-47. If you would like to share your opinions on the phone or this article, please feel free to drop by the Dev Hardware forums.
