The Insignia NS-CNV43 is a GPS that offers your basic navigational features with a twist. What is the twist? Well, the twist comes in the form of Internet-connectivity, which brings with it several useful features.
Although still imperfect, the NS-CNV43 does come at an affordable price of $179.99 and is backed by a one-year warranty.
The Insignia NS-CNV43 comes loaded with detailed maps of the United States that include approximately two million points of interest, or POIs. The list of POIs is pretty comprehensive, although if you happen to travel outside of the United States it would have been nice if they had included some maps to help you navigate in Canada, Puerto Rico, and maybe even Europe, as other GPS devices on the market do include these.
As far as its performance goes, you could say that the NS-CNV43 gets off to a slow start. While it performs decently once you finally enter in your destination, the NS-CNV43 takes a couple minutes to boot up, and achieving a usable signal isn’t done in the swiftest of manners either.
Insignia claims that the 24-channel receiver that is built into the NS-CNV43 gives added performance in less-than-desirable conditions, such as if it’s an overcast day, or if you happen to be in a mountainous area or somewhere with a lot of tall trees, so that you won’t lose your signal while on your way to your destination. This adds some peace of mind, but it still would be nice if the NS-CNV43 would achieve an initial signal faster.
When you search for POIs you could also find yourself getting a bit frustrated at the lag time. Then again, at its affordable price point, you really cannot expect the utmost in speedy performance.
