HTC Vox S710 Smart Phone - Performance

The call quality of the S710 is excellent. The sound is transferred very clearly, and the quality of the speaker phone is exceptional. The volume of the speaker is easily accessible on the side of the device, and it gets quite loud. As I mentioned earlier in this review, the quality of the included headphones is also excellent; this phone could replace your current MP3 player. Also, video playback is very smooth and accurate.

This phone is run by a 201 megahertz OMAP processor and about 24 MB of included memory which can be expanded upon. The processor works pretty well in terms of speed. It does not, however, work well with multiple applications running at the same time. Also, there are times where the processor is a bit slow, such as when the keyboard is opened and the screen takes a few seconds to switch from portrait to landscape modes. Other than that minor issue, the processor is sufficient.

The battery life of this phone is relatively good. It is rated at seven hours of talk time and seven days of stand-by. In some tests, the phone has outperformed those numbers. There is also a nice feature which preserves power; this feature can be switched on or off.

    Conclusion

The HTC Vox S710 pretty much surpasses all of my expectations in a phone. It is a bit deceiving to even call the S710 a phone, because it is better described as a multimedia device. The quality design of this device is evident as soon as it is taken out of the box. It seems to be very durable and attractive at the same time.

The Windows Mobile 6 software is a great fit for this device. It makes the phone's operation very simple and swift. I love the Windows Media Player implemented into this smart phone, and it organizes music much like an iPod.

If I could change anything about this device, I would have added 3G capabilities and maybe even a touch-screen. Other than those two features, I think this device has it all. I would keep an eye out for successors to the S710, as these issues will probably be addressed. If these features are added to future phones, it could make the device almost perfect.

Overall, if I were to rate this phone, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10. I would say that it is more refined than the iPhone, and probably a better choice at this point.  At around $430, it is definitely a great deal.
