    HTC Athena Advantage X7501 - Performance/Final Thoughts

    Performance

The call quality of the X7501 is up to par with either the speaker phone or with a headset. Reception is average, nothing special with this one, as its main purpose is as a mini computer and not as a cell phone.

The processor works very well when browsing the Internet or viewing documents.  Recent speed tests have shown loading speeds of around 120k on T-Mobile's US Edge network. The menu system also navigates very quickly without much delay at all. This is one of the fastest processors available in this type of device, so speed is a big plus in the X7501. Overall, it would be tough to find a better performing device which performs all of the functions that the X7501 does.

The battery is rated for 5.5 hours of GSM talk time and 4.5 hours of UMTS, along with 12.5 days of stand-by. Recent independent tests have shown that these numbers may be a bit conservative, because the tests showed about 6 hours of talk time.

    Final Thoughts

When you take a look at all of the features and the strong performance of this device, the price tag becomes a lot more understandable. In my opinion, this device is worth the hefty price tag based on the features alone, of which I only touched on the main ones in this review.

I would not recommend this device for someone who is looking for a nice smart phone, because that is not the main purpose of this device. This device is more suited for the business traveler, or for the person who needs the latest and greatest gadget on the market. There are plenty of good smart phones on the market, such as the Sprint Mogul, which can be purchased for much less than the X7501. For some, though, this device is exactly what they've been looking for to replace their cell phone, PDA, and laptop while traveling.  One thing is for sure, the X7501 will definitely help you travel lighter!
