Garmin Nuvi 880 Portable GPS Device - Performance
(Page 4 of 4 )
After purchasing and installing Garmin's new 880 edition, consumers will undoubtedly be in awe of the navigational device's impressive features and amazing accuracy, but like itscompetitors, the 880 is subject to the usual pitfalls concerning GPS devices. For example, in stormy or very cloudy weather, it may take a few moments for the device to register your location and fix on the surrounding areas. It is a minor, unavoidable complication, especially when considering everything this GPS is capable of, but it is a complication nonetheless. Another obvious pitfall once again involves the short lack of connectivity consumers may experience when going through a tunnel or freeway underpass. This may sound like nitpicking, but given all the praise the 880 has received, it is important to point out its flaws, no matter how minor or unavoidable.
Calculating multiple destinations is a tricky task, and though the Nuvi 880 will perform well and get you to your designation quickly and accurately, it may take a few moments for the GPS device to calculate a route. The wait time won't be anything horribly inconvenient, but it is worth pointing out.
One of the most glaring downfalls of the Nuvi 880 is its battery life. If you were planning on a cross country trip, you may want to consider purchasing extra batteries, which are $30, for backup. The Nuvi only has a rated battery life of four hours. Four hours is pretty standard, but given the device's awesome capabilities, it is quite a letdown.
What it lacks in battery life, the Nuvi more than makes up for with its aforementioned voice recognition capabilities. With other systems, consumers will find that they must ensure that their automobile is quiet before being able to really utilize voice command, and even then, they are sure to run into countless errors.
This isn't the case with the 880. Consumers will be pleased to find that they can verbally enter addresses with the greatest of ease, even with the radio on and other background noise present. The 880 will not only be able to understand, but also compute and accurately carry out demands. Perhaps for the first time ever, consumers will find that the voice command option is superior to the touch screen.
Conclusion
Garmin's Nuvi 880 is a cutting edge GPS device with top-of-the-line features; Bluetooth capabilities, an increasingly amazing voice recognition system that is sure to impress, and an overall excellent performance rating that is consistently getting it listed as one of the most advanced pieces of consumer electronics out there. But is it worth its $1,000 price tag? Leading technology experts and websites say that it is, but ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether or not you want to dish out the cash for this top-of-the-line navigation system. If it's in your budget, it may be well worth the premium price tag.
