Garmin Nuvi 205W GPS - Navigation

In terms of basic navigation, the Nuvi 205W comes with City Navigator NT maps that provide data for the contiguous lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico for those that purchase their units in the United States. Purchasers in Canada and Europe will get their respective area's map data.

You can view the maps in either 2-D or 3-D, and maps on the 205W also have the ability to show you the elevation of the terrain surrounding your location. You can load customized Points of Interest (POIs) to your 205W with the POI loader software, which connects to the Internet to add the latest geographical POI updates to your device. This is a nice feature that adds up-to-date information such as tourist destinations or restaurants, and even adds safety camera locations and school zones to the GPS as well.

Speed limits on major roadways are also taken into account; the 205W will warn you in advance to take it easy with the lead foot. These features alone can help you prevent tickets and will pay for the GPS by the money it can save in the long run.

Although the Garmin Nuvi 205W does its best to keep you informed of your surroundings, it does not come standard with traffic updates. You can, however, subscribe to MSN Direct Services to enable this option. This might be a necessity for those that live in large metropolitan areas with daily commutes to work for whom time is of the essence, but for other casual users it’s not a total loss.
