    Garmin Nuvi 205W GPS

For many shoppers interested in purchasing a GPS for their car or travel needs, there sometimes lies the dilemma: do I go cheap, or risk it and pay a lot for a GPS that does more than what I really need, which is navigation? Not everyone needs a GPS that has all the bells and whistles. For them, the Garmin Nuvi 205W may be worth a look.

Some consumers want a device that is user-friendly with little learning curve involved. My mother has a GPS, for instance, that she never uses, simply because she cannot figure out how to use all the functions.

Such is not the case with the Garmin 205W GPS. The 205W is not only easy to use, but also performs well despite its rather basic overall package. It lacks many “fancy” features that more high end GPS devices may have, but when it comes to its main purpose, navigation, the Garmin Nuvi 205W gets the job done.

This device is a clear example of substance over style. The 205W packs efficiency, performance, and simplicity into a fairly priced package. The Garmin Nuvi 205W has a suggested retail price of $189.99. Be smart and shop around though, and you may find it at even more of a bargain price.

As stated in the introduction, the Garmin Nuvi 205W is not necessarily a “feature based” product. It is rather standard in what it does, but it does everything well at least. The 205W is an entry level GPS from the Garmin line though, so one cannot truly expect it to have all the goodies that come with higher-priced units.

That is not to say that the device is completely bland, though. Perhaps its best feature is its “Where Am I?” feature, which gives users precise information on their current location. “Where Am I” will tell you the nearest address or intersection to your current location, as well as your exact latitude and longitude.

This is a great feature to have in case of an emergency, as you will be able to tell emergency responders a precise location if you are unlucky enough to have found trouble out in the middle of nowhere. Past GPS devices I have owned (and I have owned many) will not give you your exact location, and rather just show a map, so it is difficult to relay or comprehend exactly where you are.

This is an especially good feature to have for those drivers who live out in wilderness areas or in the country and away from metropolitan areas. In addition to giving your precise location, the “Where Am I” feature will also alert you as to where the nearest hospitals, police stations, and gas stations are. This is yet another plus for those drivers who like to tempt fate and drive with the fuel gauge on “E” a lot.
