Extending the Blackberry - PG Inbox

The PG Inbox stores all Internet queries that you make. For example, let’s say you use the Pocket Internet tool on your Home screen (explored later in this chapter in the section “Using the Pocket Internet”) to make a URL request, such as www.osborne.com. This URL request is treated as a query, and the information returned is considered to be a message and is stored in the PG Inbox. I like to think of the PG Inbox as the Favorites folder you typically see in web browsers. That’s not completely accurate from a technical point of view, but the PG Inbox gives you a quick-and-easy way to see what you have requested. The PG Inbox can hold about 30 messages at any given time, and you can read and delete them using the Inbox menu.

    Driving

Getting lost is never a fun proposition, but fortunately PocketGenie can help you find your way using Internet maps. This tool works by gathering a starting and destination address from you so it can provide driving directions. The tool is easy to use, and “How to…Get Driving Directions” shows you the steps.

    Entertainment

The Entertainment icon provides you access to a listing of entertainment features— basically information that can be pulled from the Internet and returned to your BlackBerry, as shown in Figure 14-3.

To use the Entertainment features, just scroll to and click the item that you want. Next, enter or select the information that is necessary for that particular section. For example, to find out information about restaurants, you first select the Restaurants option from the Entertainment Services screen. You then have to select the kind of restaurant you want, as shown in Figure 14-4, and enter a city, state, or ZIP code to find all restaurants of the type you specify in that area. The tools here are fun and easy, so check them out and enjoy.

    Get Driving Directions

Follow these steps to find out the best route to take:

    1. Click the Driving icon, the fourth icon in the top row on the PocketGenie Home screen, and click Next.

    2. Enter a starting address, as shown here. This address is where directions will start from (in other words, where you are currently). Click Next.

    3. Enter the city and state or ZIP code for the starting address. Click Next.

    4. Enter the ending address street location and click Next.

    5. Enter the city and state or ZIP code for the ending address. Click Next.

    6. In the Route screen, you can choose from a major highway route or you can avoid major highways. You can also choose fastest route or shortest route. Make your selection and click Next.

PocketGenie will locate driving directions on the Internet and return them to you.
