    Delphi NAV300 GPS - Features

    Features

The features of the NAV300 are very similar to those of the NAV200 with a few exceptions.  One of the new features of the NAV300 is its Bluetooth capabilities, although their use is limited.  My research shows that only 9 phones are compatible with the device's Bluetooth functionality.  You can check Delphi's web site to check which phones are compatible before you buy this device.

Another nice feature of the NAV300 is the text-to-speech (TTS) functionality, which is really a must-have feature in a GPS system.  This feature will give you spoken directions by announcing street names and letting you know when you are approaching a turn.  This feature is essential when using a GPS system to get to your desired destination because it is much safer than having to look at the screen all the time to get your directions.

The mapping system comes pre-loaded in this device with maps of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.  Additional maps may be purchased for other countries and loaded into the device through the SD card slot.  The directions are calculated using the very popular NAVTEQ mapping database, which is currently used in most portable GPS systems on the market.

The NAV300 has a very easy to use menu system with some good built-in features.  It lets you save destinations into the device for quicker access to them later.  You can find destinations either by entering an address or by searching the internal database for a point of interest (POI).  This device has 1.6 million pre-loaded POIs.  The POI feature uses reviews from ZAGAT Survey guides, which is a very prestigious consumer survey group.

The NAV300 also functions as a multimedia device that is capable of playing music, playing videos, and displaying pictures.  The music and video player is simple to use and very basic.  The LCD screen is a bit too small to watch full length movies, but works well for watching shorter clips.  There is also a games function for playing the included game on this device, and a calculator button as well.

Additional features include road sign icons, which appear as icons on the screen, and a cool speed limit warning indicator that will let you know when you are speeding.  This feature can get annoying for those of us who constantly speed, but it can be turned off in the settings menu.

Delphi has included the following accessories along with the NAV300 device:

    • Car Charger
    • Windshield and Dash Vehicle Mount
    • Stylus
    • SD Card
    • Warranty Card (1 year)
