Cowon O2 PVP Review - Design

Cowon’s new O2 had the minimalist in mind when it came down to design. As people are apt to say, less isn’talwaysmore, but it is in the case of the O2. At just 2.89 x 0.7x 4.7 in, this Korean import is simply designed, easy to use and only available in a very clean and professional-appearing black or white.

Its 4.3-inch touch-screen display, sized at 480x272, with a display range of 16.7 million colors, is bright and crisp, with only a slight contrast shifting when tilted up and down. The touch interface of the new O2 is responsive, and the GUI is clean and spacious, with the exception of file lists, which are a little cramped and difficult to accurately navigate with your fingertip. An attachable stylus is included that doubles as a fold-out stand.

In general, the O2 isn't a flashy or sexy device. It's an elegant and practical workhorse PVP perfect for video addicts -- and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The O2 is a perfect illustration of what can happen when a device is created to blend stunning, cutting edge technology and simple yet sophisticated design. Cowon’s new PVP may suffer through many comparisons to the iPod Touch simply because of its touch screen display. Frankly, the two products are nothing alike.

The O2 can’t check your e-mail, stream YouTube videos, show you where the nearest ATM is, play games or stream music over Bluetooth, but you know what? It doesn’t want to.Cowon’s new PVPis unapologetically single-minded: it’s a simple, attractive and very affordable portable video player that plays your content clearly. When it comes down to it, what else could you want from a PVP?
