    Cowon O2 PVP Review

Who needs a portable video player? Nearly everyone, it seems. While the market is full of PVPs, relatively few of them stand out. Cowon's O2 stands out for its long battery life, but that's not all it offers to recommend it. Keep reading for a closer look.

    Introduction

Americans are constantly on the go and nothing illustrates that better than the types of technologies that are growing in popularity among teens and adults alike. Portable video players enable users to watch movies and videos whenever and wherever they please because of the sleek, often compact design of these cutting edge entertainment devices.

Many of these players come equipped to play music, video and display digital photos, while others can even record video like TiVo from a TV or VCR. Just consider these handy new devices your all-in-one solution for listening to MP3s, watching videos and even playing games. Chances are long flights, tedious drives or boring family get-togethers will never be the same once you’ve purchased a PVP.

According to manyexperts, it hasn’t been a very exciting year for portable video players. Well, that is untilCowonintroduced their newO2 PVP. Heralded as one of the longest lasting PVPs on the market, the O2 offers its competitors, such as theiPod TouchandArchos 5a run for their money andnotjust because of its battery life.

If you’re like most consumers, your media collection is all over the place; some movies may be saved as DivX files, while others are AVI. Some photos may be JPGs while others are GIFs. You get the picture.

The new O2 has a ridiculous amount of file support that its competitors, the iPod Touch and the Archos 5, don’t even come close to. On the video end, the O2 can play back AVI, WMV, ASF, MP4, MKV, OGM, DAT, MTV, DivX, XviD, MPEG-4, WMV, 9/8/7, H.264, M-JPEG and MPEG1. The O2 is also agnostic when it comes to video resolution, accepting files all the way up to 1,280x720 at 30fps.

It seems as if Cowon’s new PVP came out of nowhere, blowing the likes of the iPod Touch and the Archos 5 out of the water. Most consumers will tell you that there is nothing more tedious and frustrating than having to re-encode batches of video files to correspond with a new electronic gadget. With the new O2 that will never again be a problem, which is reason enough to chooseCowon’s new designover its heavily publicized competitors.
