Cowon D2 4 GB MP3 Player Review - Design and Cosmetics

The D2 sports a very boxy look which works well with this player because of its large LCD screen. Speaking of the LCD screen, the D2 has a 2.5 inch LCD which is great quality and durable. The best feature of this player is that it has a touch-screen. Cowon has done a good job putting a nice protective coating on the screen to make it extra durable since it will be touched a lot. It does not protect against fingerprints so it is a good idea to use the included stylus, rather than a finger, to navigate the touch-screen. The included stylus may also be used to prop up the player for easy viewing on a desktop, and it can be adjusted to two different angles.

The D2 is relatively compact, and when you hold the player it has a bulky but durable feel to it. It is very comfortable to hold to watch movie clips or view pictures. The overall dimensions of the D2 are 3 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches, and it weighs in at 2.1 ounces.

Most of the controls of the D2 are internal, and they are controlled with the
touch-screen. There are a few controls on the outer rim of the player, though.  The D2 sports a nice hold button on top of the player. This is ideal for touch-screen players; it means you do not accidentally turn the player on while it is in your pocket or bag. You can also find the volume buttons as well as a dedicated menu button. Also along the outside of the player are two USB ports (one is a mini USB) which are used for transfers and recharging. Besides the touch-screen capability, one of my favorite features of this player is the SD expansion slot. This slot allows the user to use standard SD memory cards to add more memory to the already included 4 GB.

The design of this player is very simple and to the point. I like the fact that there
are only a limited number of external controls, because that leaves more space for the screen. The D2 is built well and should hold up fine in normal use.
