Cowon D2 4 GB MP3 Player Review
When it comes to portable music/video players, Cowon is not one of the first companies that stick out in people's minds. Yes it's true that they do not have the popularity of Apple or Sony, but they are bringing some good competition to the table for these bigger companies. Today we'll take a look at the D2 and see what it has to offer.
Cowon is a South Korean company which was started back in 1995. The company moved to North America in 2000 under the name Jetaudio Inc., and they later changed their name to Cowon America. Cowon has not been making MP3
players as long as some of the bigger producers of these devices, but they have come a long way in a short period of time since their first player back in 2000.
One of Cowon's latest creations is the Cowon D2, which became available in the U.S in early 2007. This player is probably Cowon's best all-around player, for
the price, that they have available on the market today. There are two available models of the D2; one is 2 GB while the other is 4 GB. In this review I will focus on the 4 GB model, because I think it is the better value of the two. The 2 GB model will set you back about $180, and the 4 GB model will cost around $200.
In this price range the D2 is competing with players like the 4 GB Apple iPod, and the iRiver Clix 4 GB. The D2 does set itself apart from these other players with some of its features such as the touch-screen capability. For some, the $200 price tag of the 4 GB D2 may be a bit too much, and they may want to check out the Creative Zen V Plus which is a very good 4 GB player for about $100.
