To continue where we left off talking about top Android applications, let's take a look at another great Android app for voice commands, as well as one that will help you set different profiles to match your needs wherever you go.

Running Android 2.1?  Use Vlingo for your voice commands

Previously, we discussed how the Voice Actions for Android app could be downloaded to give you extra functionality in the realm of voice commands. While it is a great app, it requires Android 2.2 to run. If you are only running Android 2.1, don't fret. You have another option with the Vlingo app.

Vlingo is a free download from the Android Market that only requires you to run Android 2.1 or higher.  Like Voice Actions for Android, Vlingo offers a great way for you to get the most out of your Android-based smartphone by allowing you to speak commands. This is a great help to those who are constantly on the road or are too busy to stare down at their phone's display.

Vlingo has an InCar feature that requires either a Bluetooth or wired headset. For this specific feature you will also need to run Android 2.2. InCar lets you speak commands to make phone calls, send and receive messages, and receive driving directions.

Another Vlingo feature is SafeReader. SafeReader will automatically read all of your incoming text messages and emails aloud. For social networking fans, Vlingo also has an option that will let you update your Facebook, Foursquare, or Twitter accounts with a spoken command.

Be a chameleon and adapt to your environment with Settings Profiles

If you own a smartphone, it means that you are probably a person that is on the go a lot. As a person on the go, you know that not every setting or environment is the same. If you work in an office, you may not want your ringer to go off when you receive a call. If you fly a lot, you may need your phone to switch to Airplane mode. Whatever the case may be, your settings might have to change as your surroundings do.  The Settings Profiles app can help with this.

Settings Profiles costs $3.95 for its Full version. Once downloaded, you can create multiple settings profiles that are customized to change your phones settings according to where you are. It will also change settings according to the time, date, the condition of your battery, and more. Do you want more life out of your battery? Settings profiles will tweak your phone to give it to you. It will also automatically start tasks or programs, control media settings for volume, etc., follow rules that you set, and much more.

With so many different ways to customize your phone, Settings Profiles allows you to really set your phone and its functions to suit your needs and schedule.

There are more potential-maximizing Android apps coming in part three of this series.  Stay tuned....
