ATandT f160 and HTC Evo Shift 4G Cellphones - HTC Evo Shift 4G

The HTC Evo Shift is the third 4G smartphone from Sprint.  It combines a solid design with plenty of features to provide an attractive option for those in the market for a new smartphone.  The Evo Shift 4G is available for $149.99 with a two-year contract from Sprint.

The Shift 4G ships with the Android 2.2 OS from Google.  This means you get plenty of Google services on the phone, such as Google Talk, Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps, Google Calendar, and YouTube.  You can also access the Android Market to browse and download from a catalog of thousands of apps that span different categories.

Basic features include a speakerphone, an alarm clock, a calculator, a world clock, a voice recorder, and many other items usually found on smartphones.  The amount of contacts you can store is only limited by the phone's 2GB of internal memory.  You can store contact data in the form of phone numbers, email addresses, notes, and more.  Contacts can be sorted into groups and be paired with a photo and ringtone.

Moving up towards the phone's advanced features reveals Bluetooth 2.1 with support for stereo headsets, hands-free car kits, and other profiles.  Voice commands are supported as well.  Besides the aforementioned Google Maps, the Evo Shift 4G also can use its integrated GPS with the TeleNav service for voice-guided directions.  The smartphone's connectivity is an obvious selling point, as it has integrated 802.11g Wi-Fi plus 3G/4G capability.  The Shift 4G can also be converted into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to give other devices an internet connection.  The full HTML browser offers a solid browsing experience when connected to the internet and supports pinching and zooming gestures for easier viewing.  Another solid part of the phone's feature set is its document viewer that lets you view Microsoft Office and PDF files.

Keeping in contact with others in via messaging on the Shift 4G is a joy.  There's threaded text and multimedia messaging.  Instant messaging through popular services is another option.  You also get mobile email capability which gives you the ability to access your commonly used email accounts on the go.  Social networking fans will be pleased with the phone's integration of popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.

There are plenty of entertainment options on the HTC Evo Shift 4G.  Music fans can use the built-in FM radio and media player to listen to music and watch videos.  Sprint TV is another solid option, and the phone's 4G capability allows for smooth viewing and load times.  There are also plenty of apps that come pre-loaded on the phone, as well as ones that can be had from the Android Market that can keep you busy.  The Shift 4G's 5-megapixel camera rounds out the features list in an impressive manner.  It can take quality photos and record video, plus it offers many different adjustable settings to tinker with.

The Evo Shift 4G looks and feels like a quality smartphone.  Its black color scheme is highlighted  by metallic accents around its borders, and it has a professional, yet trendy appearance.  The Shift 4G is easy to hold and store, as it measures only 4.6 inches tall by 2.4 inches wide by 0.6 inch thick.  The 3.6-inch touch-screen display may be smaller than some of its competitors, but it still is large enough to enjoy most of the phone's features.  The pinch to zoom capability works well, and the screen is responsive to the touch.  Navigating the phone's user-friendly interface is hassle-free.

Beneath the display are four touch-sensitive controls for home, menu, back, and search.  They work well and are small enough to not add a lot of clutter to the phone's layout.  Sliding the phone to the left reveals a horizontal full QWERTY keyboard.  The keyboard features wide, rectangular keys that are easy to type with and a plus for messaging fans.

Those seeking a touch-screen Android smartphone with 4G capability should take a strong look at the HTC Evo Shift 4G.  It not only has an attractive design, but it also has a full set of features that should satisfy anyone in need of a do-it-all phone with some messaging perks built-in.
