ATandT LG Incite Cell Phone - Performance

For the most part, consumer ratings show that most Incite users are happy with the phone’s performance. Amazon users gave the phone a 4.5 rating and CNET readers gave it three stars. Both ratings are pretty good, but there are two performance issues that keep people from giving the Incite a perfect rating: the touch screen calibration and the camera’s picture quality.

Let’s first look into the touch screen calibration. Overall, the Incite’s touch screen will register your input 99% of the time, but it’s that 1% that can be very annoying. This is especially true if you are using the portrait keyboard, where the stylus is required for input. While the keys are the right size for stylus input, sometimes the Incite will not properly register the touch. There is also a one-second lag time before the input actually shows up on the screen.

The calibration is better for some of the other keypad settings. The cursive handwriting setting is particularly impressive, as it can even interpret sloppy handwriting. But with this setting there is an even greater lag time because the device is constantly correcting your writing strokes. Still, it’s nice to know such an option is available. And, unlike some of the PDAs in the past, the Incite can register normal cursive handwriting. You won’t have to learn shorthand to use this feature.

Second on the list of performance issues is the camera’s picture quality. Now, to the untrained eye the pictures don’t look all that bad, but it’s definitely not as clear as a regular digital camera. Take a look at the picture below and judge for yourself.

So, if you need professional-quality photos, the LG Incite’s camera won’t work. But for personal pictures, the quality is decent. Plus, after you take the picture, you can email it to your friends right from your phone.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the AT&T LG Incite is very impressive. Granted, it does have some foibles with its touch screen calibration and picture quality, but that’s not uncommon in the smart phone world. Besides, everything else works well, including the phone’s Internet capabilities and its word processing features. And it’s through these features that the Incite becomes both a cell phone and a PDA; the perfect combination for busy professionals on the road.
