OCZ Platinum Edition PC2-4200 EB - A Closer Look

The RAM out of their packaging
The first thing I noticed when I removed the RAM from its packaging is its sheer weight. Not a flimsy Thermaltake-case type of weight, but a firm quality feel to them. These were definitely high-end spreaders, copper at heart, with a platinum coat.
After giving up my Friday evening (and a few fingernails) I managed to successfully wrestle these heat-spreaders off, giving me a peek at the naked IC.

ICs being used
It's shaped like a Fatbody D9 module, however labeled as a Spectek PD502. It's most likely a relabeled Micron D9DQX or D9DQW IC. I’m not sure of Spectek’s affiliation with OCZ or Micron, if any – it is most likely that after the original Fatbody D9’s became discontinued, OCZ chased down all the Fatbody D9s they could find, and pulled this particular set out of Spectek’s supply.
