After looking at 2 of OCZ’s memory chips so far, both the VX and PC4800 have knocked our socks off. The Platinum PC4800 was made to run on high FSBs, the VX with low latency. Today we have another OCZ chip with low latency, the Gold 2-2-2 PC3200. After OCZ set a really high bar with the VX, can the new Gold 2-2-2 possibly compare?
Initial thoughts
Ever since I reviewed the VX, I’ve had it running in my computer. I have grown quite attached to 2-2-2-5 while hitting speeds as high as 260 MHz. When OCZ sent me the Gold 2-2-2, I was pondering if this would compare to the VX. I went into this review with less enthusiasm about this RAM. Let’s see what happens with I pop it in.
The Memory
This memory looks exactly like the VX, minus the sticker label. The gold heat spreaders are a metallic gold, which looks good in a case. If you have any lights in your case, they will illuminate the memory. It looks really nice.
