    MetaRAM - Conclusion

MetaRAM looks like it will be one of those innovations that is either hit or miss. Either it will revolutionize the way we use RAM, or it won't find its way into more then a few computers.

The biggest point to this technology is that it will be 100 percent compatible with any motherboard that runs DDR2, no matter what memory controller or chipset it uses. DDR3 is just around the corner, so where does this leave MetaRAM and its DDR2 memory?

Using the methods they do for making the RAM compatible should make a transfer to DDR3 very simple. As far as future proof I feel this has some amount of sustainability. What comes after DDR3 is anyone's guess so there's no telling if it will be compatible.

MetaRAM isn't for everyone; unless you are running a fairly big network with some heavy duty servers, you can skip over this technology and pick up a few extra sticks of memory if need be. Few users need 20+ GB RAM in a computer now, or in the next five years.

MetaRAM has some potential to sell, but the limited market will keep this from being anything that really makes the market onto places like newegg. There are already a few investors and backers of this technology, so look for something to finalize about this in the coming year. Until then keep your ears open.
