    Kingston HyperX 512 DDR PC3500 - Kingston HyperX 512 DDR PC3500

    Testing and Benchmarks

    System:

    1. ABIT NF7-S (13 Bios, nVidia 2.03 drivers)
    2. AMD XP 2100+ (Thoroughbred 'B' AIUHB 0301)
    3. 512MB Kingston HyperX PC3500
    4. ATI 9700Pro (Catalyst 3.1, default settings)
    5. Seagate 120GB SATA HDD
    6. H2O cooled (Maze3, Z-Chip, MCW50, Hydor L30, BIX Pro Radiator)
    7. Antec True Blue 480W PSU
    8. Windows XP Pro (SP1, DX 9.0)

    Benchmarks:

    1. SiSoft Sandra Pro 2003 (2003.1.9.26)
    2. PCMark 2002 Pro
    3. 3DMark 2001 SE Pro (Build 330)
    4. 3DMark 2003 Pro

Originally I was going to test on the KT400 chipset, but without the functioning 1/6 divider, the desired memory speeds could only be achieved running in async mode. With the nForce2 chipset widely available now, we can see the results running the CPU/Memory in sync to achieve maximum throughput on the memory. With the NF7-S, Thoroughbred XP's are unlocked, allowing us to drop the multiplier, and achieve blistering FSB speeds to thoroughly test the capability of the memory.

The results were taken first with Kingston's recommended memory settings (2-4-4-8 at 2.5V) at 217x10, and at the maximum allowable overclocked speed of 225x9.5 with the memory at 2.7V. The next available FSB on the NF7-S is 230. I was able to POST, and begin loading XP, but the HDD corrupted. Nothing I love more than a date with the windows recovery console at 2AM...

    SiSoft Sandra Memory Benchmarks

    434MHz                  450Mhz

While Sandra is a synthetic benchmark, it is still a good barometer when overclocking to see the fruits of your labor.

    PCMark 2002 Pro

    434MHz                  450Mhz

Again, another synthetic benchmark, but nonetheless a good tool to measure performance increase. We can see the CPU score drop with the reduction of the multiplier from 10 down to 9.5, but the memory scores scaled nicely with the increase on the memory bus.
