It’s an oldie, but still a goodie. This test is nearly 3 years old, and for computers, that is old, but this is still one of the best benchmarks for gaming. 3DMark 01 SE runs through a few game like scenes, and outputs calculated scores. The scenes in this game are based on Direct X version 8.1, while many of the newer games are based on the newer version, Direct X 9.0. Higher scores are better.

The results from the tightest and loosest timings are roughly 800 points apart, or about 5 percent. This isn’t a huge difference, considering all scored over 15,000 points. If you are running this benchmark to compare to your friends' scores, then 800 points can mean the difference between getting ratted on for a slow system and having bragging rights for the fastest machine.
DOOM 3 Demo
The newest game in the Doom series, Doom 3, was one of the most anticipated games of the year. It stressed every part of the computer; many modern day computers have a hard time trying to handle this game with decent FPS and quality settings. Higher scores are better.

The difference is about 4 frames per second. Not a noticeable difference on this computer, but if you are trying to squeeze a few more FPS out of your computer, this may be the way. Gaming is one of the reasons people build their computers. If you plan to build a system for gaming mainly, then you may want to check out the lower latency.
