Cruzer Micro Flash Drive Review - Bundled Software
(Page 2 of 4 )
The drive is a U3 smart drive (as it should be coming from the co-inventors of U3) and comes with the U3 launch pad and some software preinstalled. Unfortunately, most of the software is either rubbish (like the Big Fish games) or trial-based and can hence be quickly removed to reclaim some of that 4GB of storage. The only full, free program worth keeping (in my own humble opinion) is Skype.
Using the U3 launch pad is really simple. When you connect the drive, a floating icon is placed on the desktop. Just click this to open a menu which allows you select which program to launch, or change settings.
Adding your own software is also very easy. One of the options on the launch pad menu is an option to add new software. When this is clicked, a browser (a U3 browser, not the system default) is launched and takes you to the U3 web site. When you select a program on the site, you get an installer wizard that takes you through the installation process quickly and easily.
There are a lot of popular commercial applications that are available for the U3 platform (you can view all of the certified U3 software available on the U3 site), but there are also a great many excellent freeware programs too and the range is growing all the time. The beauty of U3 is that you take your application settings and preferences with you wherever you go; so if you install a browser for example, you'll never be without your bookmarks and plug-ins on a new computer again.
