Crucial PC3200 Memory Review - ScienceMark 2
(Page 6 of 10 )
ScienceMark 2 is a benchmark suite based on mathematical calculations used in most scientific research. It includes a very detailed memory benchmark, which will also test the L1 and L2 cache of your processor. The algorithms used for some of the tests are available on their website for scrutiny, but unless you are familiar with assembly, you may not understand it. I used the Bandwidth, Compiler, ALU Register Copy, and MMX Register Copy for the tests. The bandwidth test is there for obvious reasons, but the compiler test is there to see how well the memory does when under load. Compilers tend to give deep pipelines in processors problems, and that usually translates in more memory access. The ALU Register Copy test and MMX Register Copy test are there to see how well the memory handles transfers from the processor to the memory.
