Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 2x512MB - Conclusion
(Page 8 of 8 )

The Crucial Ballistix Tracer modules are definitely impressive. Benchmarks show, even with the addition of the LEDs and control circuitry, that they retain all the performance and overclockability of Crucial's Ballistix line. Considering how remarkably the regular Ballistix perform, this is no small feat. The ability to overclock to DDR514 speeds and being able to run with low latency timings allows the user a lot of flexibility to configure these modules to their system setup.
Clearly the Tracer line is marketing itself to users that want more from their RAM than other manufacturers provide. Case modders are the first to come to mind, but really anyone with a windowed case would be interested in the Tracer modules. Seeing as how the Tracer modules respond differently due to the chipset and BIOS of the motherboard they are used with, it gives a real sense that the activity LEDs are truthfully portraying the amount of work the memory modules are performing.
Crucial has hit the mark with the Ballistix Tracer, providing high quality, high performance, visually appealing memory, and backing it up with Crucial's reputation for taking care of their customers. These modules should not be overlooked by anyone in the market for DDR memory.
Highs
- Lights, lights, and more lights
- Looks very spiffy in windowed cases
- Can easily run tight timings of 2-2-2-5
- Overclocks very well through tighter timings
- Doesn't require ridiculously high voltage, 2.9V+
No lows to speak of which must be a first, the Crucial Ballistix Tracer does everything you would expect without flaw and therefore I am awarding it the coveted DevHardware Recommended Award.
