Nyko Air Flo Game Pad Review
(Page 1 of 6 )
Whether what you're playing is older games like
Duke Nukem and
Diablo, or newer games like
Halo: Combat Evolved and
Need for Speed Underground, you may often find that you are losing your grip. No, not your grip on reality (although that may come with enough game play). I’m talking about your grip on the controller or gamepad. I think I may have found a solution to just that problem in a little contraption called the Nyko Air Flo Game Pad.
Let’s start with a little bit of background on Nyko Technologies, Inc. Here is a bit from their website:
“Nyko Technologies is a pioneer of innovative peripherals for interactive entertainment, personal computing and consumer electronics products. Nyko's innovative past began with the introduction of the patented Worm Light for the GameBoy Advance. More recently, Nyko's talented internal product development team is credited with the award-winning, patented line of Air Flo Controllers, the world's first series of game console and PC controllers with forced air, hand-cooling vents. The manufacturers other groundbreaking and popular products include revolutionary flagship item Wireless Net Extender, an easy-to-use and secure wireless Ethernet bridge, as well as a variety of licensed and original video game, computer, and wireless peripherals. Nyko is headquartered in Los Angeles, and has been in business since 1995.”
Nyko has actually been making controllers like this for while now, but only for gaming consoles such as the PS2 and Xbox. It was just a few months ago that the company released this PC game pad. Here are some more specifications (directly from their website):
- Patented Air Flo hand cooling technology with variable intensity for optimum comfort 13 fully assignable action buttons
- Dual analog control sticks
- 8-way directional/point-of-view pad
- Rubber play grips with Air Flo ventilation eliminates sweaty hands during play;
- 10-foot extra long cable
In the picture below you can see the package. Pretty basic, but no amount of shaking is going to rattle this thing around in the plastic.

Not a whole lot inside the package. In addition to the controller, you get is a simple but well-written installation sheet. It’s Plug-n-Play, so you don't need installation disks, as with some other game pads.
