    Microsoft Optical Mouse

Alright guys, this is not necessarily "Hardware" or "Overclock" related, but something I've wanted put out to you peeps for awhile now. Honestly, there is not a lot of "layman's" info I can come up with here, but I am sure gonna give it a shot. Because lets face it. Did you come here to look at a butt load of stats, or marketing hype? Well, I didn't think so. So lets get to work and give you some reasons why you may want to purchase one of these bad boys.

    Overview:

Above you see what basically comes in the box. 1 Intellimouse Optical, complete with USB cable. There is also a PS/2 adaptor for those of you that either have an "ancient" PC, or just do not have an open USB port, or for whatever reason, just do not want to run the mouse through the USB. Honestly, I was skeptical myself at first. Yes, the USB port does support higher throughput but 1 bad thing is....if for some reason, you have to boot up in safe mode, You will get No love from this mouse whatsoever (while in safe mode).

Here is the underbelly of this thing. Kinda neat huh? Ahhh...yeah. Ok, obviously it has "no ball" which in the long run, is a good thing. No moving parts. Translation, nothing to wear out, nothing to consistently get dirty. Am I alone here when I say, cleaning mouseballs sucks mooseballs?? Heh, just as I suspected. Also, a highpoint here is that the optical sensor used will work on damn near any surface, except my white Everglide. Needless to say, I hadda ditch that bad boy in favor of a brand new RatPad, which I had been planning to do anyways. Oh it's so pretty. It is a known fact that the optical sensor does not work well on white or reflective surfaces. At first I was hesitant to believe this, but alas, it was certainly true. However, this is a small price to pay for the quality of this mouse.

What I like here, is, the optical has as many features as the best unit they offer, notably the Intellimouse Explorer. Yet is is $20 cheaper. Gotta love that. Now I have not actually held or used the Explorer, but from what I can tell. It is slightly larger and silver in color. I guess the "WOW" factor may be there for some people, but I actually prefer a nice subtle touch, and the Optical provides just that.
