Logitech V200 Wireless Mouse - Operation

    Operation

Now, this mouse operates in the 2.4GHz frequency band, which had me a little worried as that's in the same frequency range at which my wireless modem operates, as well as my cordless telephones. A quick test of my signal strengths with and without the mouse showed no differences on either of my notebooks.  I performed this test in several areas of my house where I normally get 38-43% signal.  Surfing the 'net or the wireless LAN had no effect on mouse operation, nor did using my cordless phone while mousing.

Since my USB ports are on the back of the notebook, I don't get quite the reception that someone with ports on the side would. This is noticeable if the mouse is fairly close to the computer and my leg is between the mouse and computer.

Yes, the mouse works better for me when it is further away from the notebook. From two feet more than 15 feet away (my living room is only so big; as it was, I couldn't see the mouse pointer, I had to scroll this article up and down to confirm operation), it works great.  At 12 inches... not so hot.  That is to say, it works, but there is more of a chance that a button-click or a movement won't register when the mouse is up close and personal with the laptop and something (like my leg) provides interference with the signal.

The optical mouse has issues with rough fabrics like my couch (its texture is similar to burlap), but has no problem with blue jeans, the corduroy-type fabric on my recliner, or most types of paper.  The mouse will not work on dark, semi-glossed papers.  Some may think it's weird to judge performance on fabrics such as a couch, but we are talking about a mobile setup -- you never know where you are going to be computing.
