Ever since the introduction of the cordless mouse a few years back, I have been patiently waiting for something stellar to break the mold and give those of us who use their mice on a daily basis something special. Something that was also suitable for surf, work and gaming. Does the Logitech MX™700 Cordless Optical Mouse deliver the goods? That's what we are here to find out today. Microsoft wasn't able to quite get it right so can Logitech?
Out of the box
Right from the outset the Logitech MX700 Cordless Mouse looks like a heavyweight contender. The construction and quality are evident when first taking a look at the unit, and even further embedded after you actually pull the mouse out of the box and get a good feel for it. The center of the unit has a silvery armored looking quality to it, while the sides and center are of a softer almost "rubbery" feel. Much like many products are being made today that not only feel great in your hand, but are also built for sturdiness and longevity. Not to mention the prominent Logitech® logo placed towards the rear in the center.
Opening the box reveals all the necessary ingredients needed to give us a superb mousing experience. Items included in the box are:

USB to PS/2 adaptor
Oddly enough, I had previously assumed the base station would simply get it's power to recharge the batteries from the USB port itself (although some folks don't leave their PC's running 24x7 like we do). Evidently this isn't powerful enough and Logitech saw fit to connect it to a 110v outlet via AC adaptor. The AC adaptor connects to the rear of the USB plug that goes into your PC's USB port. Lets take a look at a few shots of the unit and inventory out of the box.
Hats off to Logitech for including the 2 necessary AA NiMH batteries. I was on my way to purchase a set of these until I stopped to read the box when to my amazement, they were actually included. In most retail stores, this alone will cost you 8 to 12$ depending on brand and power of the batteries you purchase. Thanks out to Logitech for not only saving us a few extra dollars, but also the hassle of finding and buying the batteries as well. Just grab your box and be on your way to the checkout line.

Most of you will want to quickly dismiss these features as standard fare for most optical mice. However, upon closer inspection, we see the MX700 comes stacked with quite a few enhancements that simply aren't available from any other mouse or manufacturer today. Logitech MX Optical Engine
Image Processing Power
The MX Optical Engine captures 4.7 megapixels of information per second, more than 60% more than other leading mice. Why is that significant? Because when more image data is captured and analyzed each second, more data is available to determine motion... increasing the mouse's ability to track on difficult surfaces or during quick movements.
A mouse's sensor needs to “see” small surface details to track motion. The more detail captured within each image, the more data will be available for calculating movement. The MX Optical Engine captures images that are over 80% larger than those from other sensors on the market today. This contributes to the smooth, fluid tracking on traditionally difficult surfaces, such as wood desktops or other surfaces with repetitive patterns.
The Optical Path
Another fundamental factor that determines how well an optical mouse performs is the quality of the images it captures. Since the lens is just a fraction of an inch above the tracking surface, and the actual size of the images is very small, even slight variations in manufacturing tolerances can result in blurry images which seriously degrade tracking quality.
Logitech designed a proprietary new lens for the MX Optical Engine that improves the depth of field. The result: more details are captured in each image with greater clarity
Fast RF Cordless Technology

The Fast RF technology used in the MX700 mouse provides the user with the same reporting ratio than any corded USB mouse.
