Technology Tid-Bits - Performance of the Redesigned Roombas

I have not had the pleasure of getting my hands on one of the new Roomba models, but I have researched the performance capabilities of the two new models. I can definitely see a difference in performance with the older models and the new Roomba 530 and the Roomba 560. The 530 and 560 models do have better suction than the previous models; iRobot claims that the new vacuums have twice as much power. In recent tests, the new Roomba models performed well on uneven surfaces and while going over cords.

The new Roomba models also have 20% larger dust bins, and they do a better job at picking up larger items such as coins, rubber bands, and wads of pet hair.  There is a separate bin for fine dust particles. The new models also allow you to schedule a time of day for the vacuum to start automatically; this is a great feature. Test runs of the Roomba 560 have shown that it has no problem going
from hard floors to carpet or over rugs. The Roomba 530 will cost about $250, and the Roomba 560 will set you back $399.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about these robotic vacuums but, after researching them I think that they may actually be very useful for some people.  For busy people who are always on the go, this may be perfect for them.  I think that iRobot has finally built a robotic vacuum that is effective and isn't just a novelty.  This technology is amazing, and I would expect to see a lot more of it from iRobot in the near future.
