Brief Summary of CTIA 2008 Keynotes
Two words: revolutionizing wireless. That’s what CTIA Wireless 2008 is all about. During this three-day event, more than 1,100 companies showcased their mobile solutions, applications, and products to over 40,000 professionals from 125 countries. This year’s event was held in Las Vegas, NV, between the first and third of April. In this article, we’ll briefly present and discuss some of the most outstanding and provocative keynotes given by experts in their fields.
As you would expect, not only the keynotes, but also the pavilions were truly shocking: the convergence of every wireless-related industry on 400,000 square feet of floor space. Surely, we couldn’t write a comprehensive overview and presentation of products that were exposed there; it’d be next to impossible to mention even one hundredth of them in an article. Thus, it’s beyond the scope of this article.

I don’t know whether it’s me or not, but I always find the keynotes given on major global events like this one pretty magnificent. Probably one of the reasons is that they tackle the most provocative revolutionary ideas of the future, things that should be done, and so forth, while simultaneously creating an atmosphere of hi-tech, professionalism, and a heightened sense of expertise in the related field.
Now let’s mention the honorable speakers of CTIA Wireless 2008.
Day 1: Lowell McAdam, President & CEO of Verizon Wireless; Steve Largent, CTIA President & CEO; Kevin J. Martin, FCC Chairman; Richard Branson, Founder & Chairman of Virgin Mobile; Robert Bach, President of Entertainment & Devices Division; Dan Hesse, President & CEO of Sprint Nextel.
Day 2: Steve Largent, CTIA President & CEO; Arun Sarin, CEO of Vodafone Group PLC; Marco Boerries, President of Yahoo! Mobile.
Day 3: Senator John Edwards and Senator Fred Thomson.
Throughout this article we’re going to focus mostly on the keynotes of Lowell McAdam, Kevin J. Martin, Robbie Bach, and Dan Hesse. This doesn’t mean we should ignore the rest, but due to the obvious space restrictions, we could only pick a few. Now that you already know what to expect, turn the page, and let’s begin already.
