Water Cooling Basics - Radiator and Fans

If you haven’t done anything about the radiator and fans, then this is the time. This is the easy part. The radiator will have two barbs, one to let water in, and one to let water out. Connect the tubes and you’re in business.

Don’t forget to turn the fan(s) on or your temperatures won’t look too good. I decided to put my radiator outside my case. I just cut the bottom two PCI slots into one and it ran through without a problem.

Your radiator should come with some way to connect the shrouds and fans. My shrouds came with a few screws, but no way to connect the fans. While this disappointed me, it made me improvise. I grabbed some wire, ran it through the radiator, and looped it around the fan holes.

This brings up an important part of modding in general. You have to be able to improvise. Your local hardware stores might not have everything you need; you may need to be creative. Zip ties and wire can join just about anything together.

After that is all done it's all down hill. All that is left is to connect the tubing, and fill with water. Remember to use the corrosion protection. Do another quick check of for leaks. Time to cross your fingers, and hit the power button.

    Conclusion

At this point I will let you go. You have your water cooling system up and running, and hopefully dry. Check your temperatures with a program like MBM5, or if your motherboard came with a program, use that. They should be a lot lower then before. Disclaimer: The temperatures shown by the built in probes are off, generally by a few degrees, but can be a lot. If you have any problems you may drop by the forum and ask questions. Better to get it all planned out and ask questions, than to have a massive accident and fry your computer.
