The second to last of the media-oriented tests is an MP3 conversion of The Tragically Hip - Phantom Power album using the DBPoweramp frontend. The disc was first ripped to WAV format on the HD, so that the CD drive wouldn't be the limiting factor. In addition, more error correction from beat up discs is possible with this method. The extra 800MHz makes itself felt here, knocking off a full 100 seconds. That's a 40% change, almost equivalent with our 44% increase in clock speed.

Using the latest version of Gordian Knot, a two pass, two CD rip of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie was made. Again, just like the first test in After Effects, CPU speed is the dominant factor in performance. Both passes showed near 1:1 dependency on the CPU clock. In fact, the second pass was going along at such a fantastic clip that my RAID 0 array was beginning to show signs of strain getting enough data across to feed it. Now that's impressive.
