    Media Center Guide - Sharing

You will most likely want to share these video files with other computers and TVs. The easiest way is to share the folders that the files are in. XP has built in sharing folders for videos, pictures, and music. If you feel the urge, you can use the media center as a file server too. I feel much more comfortable having a back up of all my important files and MP3s on a computer that doesn’t do a lot. There is less of a chance of something going bad on that machine than on one that you constantly use.

Another solution for sharing is an external hard drive. This will cost you a lot more then file sharing. The advantage to using an external hard drive is that you can take it with you on trips and to other off site locations.

    The future

Today we took a look at what a media center is. The idea of a media center is very young. There are many new technologies on the horizon that could turn a media center into something more. Maybe once all the home media is connected, we could start integrating other electronic devices. It is possible to imagine one central computer that could turn on the oven, or make you a cup of coffee while still recording the shows that you want to watch at a later time.
