In this example the wand can be used to easily select all the black pixels of the background.

Note how the images on the right side of the editor window show the effect of this.
When the mask is implemented by clicking OK in the editor, the icon is once again updated in the main editor window to reflect the changes.

Layers
Layers provide another way of creating and modifying more complex graphical elements for your themes. Depending on the type of graphic, different layers will be available for modification. SVG graphics display each color used as a separate editable layer, allowing precise color control to be achieved by modifying each color independently. PNG graphics, on the other hand, show the base image layer and any mask that has been applied, allowing a quick way to access and edit these items separately from one another. To modify a color layer in an SVG graphic, double-click any of the layers in the Layers pane. The color picker will open, allowing a new color to be selected for that layer.
This article has looked at the theme editing process of Carbide.ui in more detail, including modifying component properties, vector and bitmap image editing, and the use of masks and layers to add complexity and transparency to theme design. Part three will cover the use of animations and effects, the creation of audio themes, and how to transfer a completed theme to a cellphone.
