Creating a Nokia Cell Phone Theme with Carbide.ui - More Architecture
(Page 4 of 4 )
Indicators
Indicators are things like volume, signal, tabs, battery, slider and navigation widgets that provide visual feedback about the phone.
Each type of indicator has various specific items that can be edited by selecting the appropriate element in the Resources view.

Scroll bars and lines
Scroll bars consist of a track and a handle, the appearance of each of which can be edited. Lines are of two types, primary and secondary, and are used in themes as view dividers, to construct tables (the calendar for example), and in slider tracks. Both the shape and color of lines are editable.
Appearance of common applications and components
Each phone application, such as the clock, calendar, calculator or music player, has its own unique appearance, elements of which can be edited.
Sounds and screen saver
The theme's sounds -- such as the ring tone and message alert tone -- may be customized in Carbide.ui. It is also possible to create and add new animated screen savers in the .sis, .swf, .gif, .svgz and .svg file formats.
S40 themes are broadly similar in structure, but contain fewer editable elements.
This article has covered the basic architecture of the Carbide.ui software and the themes with which it is designed to work. In part two we'll look at the theme editing process in more detail, including modifying component properties, vector and bitmap image editing, and the use of layers and masks to add complexity and transparency to theme design.
