Westinghouse VK-40F580D Television - DVD Player and More
(Page 4 of 4 )
If you are big on environmental issues and conservation, the VK-40F580D comes equipped with the ability to reduce power consumption while on standby. Unfortunately, this power saving mode does not apply when the television is in use. Still, it is a nice feature to have, as it will cut down on energy consumption when you are not in front of the television, at least.
The foremost feature of the Westinghouse VK-40F580D is its DVD player. The player functions well and the television immediately switches to DVD mode once one is inserted. Movies run smoothly on the VK-40F580D without having any major hiccups. If you insert a standard definition DVD, the player will automatically scale it to fit the high definition display.
One down side to the DVD player’s performance is that once in DVD mode, you have to remember to press the DVD menu key on the remote to control the movie, or else you will still be stuck in TV mode. Other than that, the player does perform satisfactorily.
Considering its price, the Westinghouse VK-40F580D performs rather well in terms of its picture. Black levels are solid and deep, and the colors displayed are accurate after calibration. The picture obtained while using the DVD player looks good as well, and the picture viewed while connected to a PC is decent, although not great.
The Westinghouse VK-40F580D is a combination unit that performs well, considering its price. Although it lacks some connectivity and extra features, its main purpose of providing DVD functionality is where it performs best and lives up to expectations. If you are looking for a TV/DVD combo in a LCD, the VK-40F580D is a good choice.
