Westinghouse VK-40F580D Television - Features
(Page 3 of 4 )
Another weakness of the Westinghouse VK-40F580D is the remote control that accompanies it. The buttons seem too close together, especially if you are someone with rather large fingers. You will have to experiment with the remote to fully understand it, as many of the buttons have symbols describing them rather than actual words, as is the case with the menu button.
There is also no dedicated aspect ratio button, so you will have to access this option through the menu. This can be annoying, and Westinghouse really should have dedicated a button to such a commonly used setting. The DVD player controls are integrated into the remote control, and there are also buttons dedicated to each input type.
The menus on the Westinghouse VK-40F580D are intuitive and easy to use. They are clear and easy to read from a distance as well. Another plus of the menus on the VK-40F580D is that as you scroll through them and highlight a setting, you will see text that explains what each option is. One negative of this is that every setting does not have an accompanying description, which seems rather sloppy on the manufacturer’s part.

The VK-40F580D has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, or 1080p. This is becoming standard with most large LCDs, although it is tough to tell just how much you gain by having 1080p resolution on a screen that is only 40 inches. Nonetheless, it does manage to put out a nice picture.
You have the option of three aspect ratios on the VK-40F580D. If picture customization is big on your priority list, there are four presets. The presets cannot be adjusted, unfortunately, but there is a fifth custom mode that you can adjust to your preference. This custom mode can be adjusted, and is independent per input. This is a huge plus and prevents you from having to readjust your settings every time you change inputs.
In addition to these controls, the Westinghouse VK-40F580D also comes with three color temperature presets and a custom mode that allows you to adjust the white balance as well. Unfortunately, no picture in picture exists on the VK-40F580D, which could deter sports fans who like to watch two events at the same time.
