    ViewSonic VX2245wm - Design

ViewSonic went all out when designing this monitor. They used a beautiful piano-black finish with grey accents for the body. The ViewDock flat panel measures  20.6 x 19.4 x 8.4 inches, and weighs about 18 pounds. The size and weight of the monitor is about average for a 22-inch model.

The body of the VX2245wm sports a very nice 8-in-one media card reader, as well as three separate USB ports located on the front of the monitor. The front of the monitor also houses the screen controls, a tiny microphone, and a volume knob. Just below the screen, you will find the iPod docking station located on the base of the unit. Some people have said that the iPod may be distracting when you are trying to use the computer, because of where it is located.

The screen itself is a nice-sized 22-inch TFT LCD display with a dot pitch of 0.28mm, a resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels, and a contrast ratio of 700:1. The viewing angle of the screen is 170 degrees horizontal and 160 degrees vertically. ViewSonic has made this monitor relatively fast in terms of pixel response rate. They claim that the VX2245wm will move at speeds of 5 ms, which is plenty fast for gaming or movies. At this speed, you can expect minimal ghosting while watching action on the screen. All of the technical spec numbers look good for this monitor, but you don't get full HD capabilities with this device.

A nice bonus in this model is the built-in speakers and sub-woofer. The two speakers are powered by 2.5 watts, while the built-in sub-woofer runs off of 3 watts of power. Obviously, this speaker system will not replace an aftermarket set-up, but it does still perform better than most monitors with just two built-in speakers and no sub-woofer.

Included with the purchase of this monitor are the following:

    • VGA cable
    • DVI cable
    • audio cables
    • AC adapter
    • USB cable
    • Five iPod adapters
    • CD ROM and warranty card (3 year warranty)
